A Family Photoshoot at Pine Cliffs, Algarve

On a golden June afternoon, I had the chance to photograph a beautiful family of four from the United States, spending their summer holidays in the Algarve. With two well-behaved, sweet-natured children and a calm, joyful energy between them, they brought warmth and connection to every frame.

Our session took place at the stunning Pine Cliffs Resort in Albufeira, beginning in the peaceful courtyard of the main building, moving through the lush outdoor paths and gardens, and ending on the iconic cliffs and beach below: the breathtaking Praia da Falésia.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

From Architecture to Ocean – Letting the Story Flow

We started a little earlier than usual to work with the family's routine. This meant the light was initially stronger than I normally prefer, but it challenged me to observe differently — to seek out soft shade, reflected light, and natural frames in the resort's architecture. It turned out to be a gift: these first moments felt structured, calm and gently composed.

As the sun began to lower, we made our way toward the beach, stopping along the way in quiet garden corners, beneath trees and open paths. The light turned golden, the children played freely, and the parents embraced the moment with ease. There was no pressure, no need for poses. Just movement, closeness, and genuine joy.

The Gift of Presence

This session reminded me of something I always believe: you don’t need a big occasion or perfect conditions to capture something meaningful. All you need is presence — and the willingness to be seen as you are.

With each frame, I tried to preserve not just what the Algarve looks like in June, but what it feels like: warm, bright, slow, and honest. The connection between this family, the joy of being together in a beautiful place, the sense of time slowing down... those are the things I want them to remember when they look back at these images.

Why I Share So Many Photos

In this post, I’m sharing more than just a highlight reel. You’ll find 30 to 50 images — not because more is better, but because I want you to see the full rhythm of a session like this. The quiet in-between moments. The shifts in light. The variety of ways connection shows up when you give it space.

This is what a family session in the Algarve can look like. And if you’re dreaming of your own, I’d love to help you create it.
